Miscarriage, I grew up as much as I suffered

Two weeks ago, I was pained with a miscarriage. While adjusting to a new life, pregnancy looks like an unexpected gift, but it is one that I lost suddenly. In my experience, it is not easy to go to a clinic in the States like it is in Korea. In Korea, I can go to any medical clinic whenever I feel sick. Here, however, it takes longer to make an appointment to see a doctor and sometimes I wait for the appointment for about a month. My doctor’s appointment was in July, so I couldn’t see her before the appointed time though I wanted to go to see the doctor before July. I was saddened to end up with the result of a miscarriage. While I was crying at home after I learned of the miscarriage at the clinic, one scripture came into my heart clearly. This verse is one that I had never memorized; “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God(Psalms 42:5)”. I was surprised. I met God, who comes to me to comfort and touch my heart precisely and delicately. I cannot cry anymore with God’s grace. It seems like a difficult situation, but it has become “Amen” under His sovereignty. So now….I’m fine.^^ I expect God’s working in His time with His way, so I praise the Lord with thanks in this difficult situation.

I remember that many missionaries are suffering through this kind of situation around me. From now on, their pain has become my pain, so I thank God for this experience because I can pray for them with my heart, not only with my head. Like “Wounded healer,” which Henri Nouwen mentioned in his book, I became a wounded healer to understand the suffering people who have the same experience. I promise to walk the road to be a missionary who helps missionaries today.

Samuel Lee’s family visited Lydia’s House before leaving for Myanmar

Last June 26 to 28, Samuel Lee’s family, who are going to Myanmar as missionaries, visited Lydia’s House. They went on a funding trip in some states, and their final destination was our house. We had an excellent time fellowshiping and praying together. I have watched the processes of Samuel’s life from the days he dreamed about the mission, so I felt various kinds of feelings; thankfulness, joy, and sadness in my heart.

After he finished his doctoral program, he was willing to leave for the mission field. I’m excited to see his faithful act. I’m pleased to pray and prepare to cooperate with Lydia’s House ministry in the future. I will do my ministry here in the States, and he will do his ministry in Myanmar, but we will pray together and walk to the way of caring for others.

Upcoming guests

  • September: Susan Truitt, OMS Field Director
  • October 23-30: Jonathan & Michelle Park, Director at the Evangelical Missionary Training Center

Chris & Chelsea Dourson, the fellow workers who have the same vision for caring people

Chris, a pastor in Indiana, came to Lydia’s House with his wife last July 1 to 3. Chris is a faithful fellow worker who has shared a caring vision with Cloud from the time they were seminary students. On the very first day I met my husband, we met Chris near the OMS HQ. After he heard about my vision, he pointed his finger at Cloud, and at the same time, he sent Cloud a sign to “grab” me. He is a valuable co-worker to Cloud and me now.

This visit was the second gathering of sharing the vision for the ministry of Lydia’s house. This time we developed the idea of what steps to take to register Lydia’s House as an NGO and how to pray to connect this caring ministry with our churches for the spiritual revival and mission. I cannot do it alone, but two or three people who share their minds can do better things with much more energy.

Please pray for me like this:

  1. Let me recover my physical health after miscarriage and have a healthier body and spirit and mind.
  2. Please grant wisdom, understanding, and learning to digest the new culture and language of the mission field.
  3. My visa will expire on November 2nd. Let the end of October be the time to accomplish the process for visa renewal. Please guide me to prepare the necessary documents for a ten-year visa without any mistakes, according to the US government’s procedures. And give me the wisdom to do everything.
  4. Please pour the spirit and grace You have already prepared for the “Mission Night,” which we will do with missionary Jonathan & Michell Park in October.
